About The Exhibit
After studying and considering the different possibilities relating to the appearance of Stegosaurus stenops. Mark designed, sculpted, painted and photographed his 31 inch long sculpture of the 30 foot long dinosaur.
The most important purpose for the placement of the plates and spikes, within physiological evolutionary limitations, was to deter the indigenous Jurassic theropods. Size and thick knobby skin were additional deterrents. Stegosaurus stenops was indeed a hazardous herbivore to provoke. Porcupines have a comparable method of defense.
Mark used his artist’s license to combine the mottled pattern and coloring of several present day reptiles for this sculpture.
